    Coastal Bake Shop

Say Hi to Katherine, Rick, and Ava!

    About Coastal Bake Shop

We are parents of three amazing little humans. Coastal Bake Shop exists because of them. Everything we do is in pursuit of providing a better life for them. In our free time, we enjoy spending time together as a family.

When did you first get started?

We began working on the concept in early 2021. We officially opened in December of 2021.

What inspired you to start your business?

We started Coastal Bake Shop as a way to provide financial security for our growing family.

What is your favorite thing to make/produce?

My favorite product to make is our country bread. It is a 3 day (mostly passive) process that challenges us to be in tune with our natural leaven. It requires us to use our senses and adapt to environmental conditions. It is very rewarding to go through that process and get to see the bread spring in the oven as a final phase of that long journey.

Where are you from/where did you grow up?

We are born and raised Texans.

Share a fun fact about yourself you’d like your customers to know!

A fun fact about about us is that we both hold degrees in areas that have nothing to do with baking, business, or food service. Katherine holds an art degree from SVA and Rick holds a B.S. in Anthropology from UH.

  • Confetti Me Macarons

    Confetti Me Macarons

    Say hi to Jeanil!

    About Confetti Me Macarons

Confetti Me Macarons is dedicated to bringing you the most fun, bright, and creative flavors, unique to the area. We put love and care into every macaron we make. Our handcrafted macarons are baked fresh daily, using only the finest ingredients.

When did you first get started?

At the end of 2018, I started baking macarons for fun, while I was a stay at home mama. I was always craving macarons, so I figured instead of always having to go out and buy some, I decided to attempt making them at home.

What inspired you to start your business?

Being a stay at home mama of my 2 little girls, I didn’t want to eventually go back to work and have to put them in daycare full time, so I always thought of business ideas that I can start. When I started making macarons, people online started asking me if I sell macarons and I’d always say no, just for fun. One day it clicked in my head that I should turn this into a business, and it’s something I LOVE doing.

What is your favorite thing to make/produce?

I absolutely love being creative with macarons, so my favorite orders are when customers send me inspiration photos, or an invitation and want me to just match the theme.

Where are you from/where did you grow up?

I am originally from New York, raised in Florida, and moved to TX back in 2017, right after the hurricane.

My family is from Dominican Republic, so some of the flavors I use is fresh flavors from DR. My absolute favorite is the Milk + Honey, and the honey is brought in from Dominican Rep. and has such a unique flavor, completely different than honey from anywhere in the States.

I’m a baker, but I am also in love with health and fitness.

    CoCo Dough

      Say Hi to Colette!
    Say Hi to Colette!

    About CoCo Dough

I am new to the island and a mom of 3 little ones! I run a sensory business focused on therapeutic play for children, and this little labor of love has developed alongside it. The kids always help me dye play dough and now they have even more fun getting creative with me for the different colored bread. Sourdough is very popular and I wanted to approach it in a unique way! Every loaf and slice sold is helping us renovate our new home by the seawall and going towards a larger kitchen so I can invest in a bread oven- to make even more bread for this community!

When did you first get started?

I started around the holidays of 2024 after my sister in law mentored me. She runs a successful micro bakery out of her home and used to live in Galveston as well.

What inspired you to start your business?

I saw a few of my mom friends making sourdough at home with their kids despite crazy schedules and thought if they can then maybe I can do it too! My daughter is the inspiration behind my signature ‘Mermaid’ loaf because I wanted to make her pretty bread with natural powders so she would eat the sourdough and have a healthier option.

What is your favorite thing to make/produce?

I loooove to make the ‘Mermaid’ bread because the dough is different every time! It’s so fun to mix and see the outcome with each loaf.

Where are you from/where did you grow up?

I am a Texas girl! Born in Houston and recently moved here from Austin. I like the pace and small town vibe of Galveston much better!

Share a fun fact about yourself you’d like your customers to know!

I am an artist and went to school for graphic design, so I illustrated my own logo and all marketing materials!

When did you first get started?

    2014!

What inspired you to start your business?

When I first moved to Texas, from California, I joined an organic co-op, whose owner had Celiac disease. I was baking my own bread at the time and she asked if I would be able to make gluten-free baked goods for her customers. Thus, Food of Life was born!

What is your favorite thing to make/produce?

I love a challenge! So, anytime a customer makes a request for something I haven’t made before, it becomes a culinary adventure to make that request a reality.

  • Jazz Bird Bakery

    Jazz Bird Bakery

    Say hi to Erin!

    About Jazz Bird Bakery

I’m Erin Young and I graduated from the French Culinary Institute in 2015 with a certificate in cake design. I have lived in many places including Colorado, New York, and New Orleans, but finally decided to settle near my childhood favorite place, Galveston. I also has a BFA in fine art so I wanted to marry my two passions together.

When did you first get started?

While living in NYC and being in a band, I’d watch many a food network show dreaming of a life where my “day” job was just as fun as playing music at night.

What inspired you to start your business?

After culinary school, I tried to get a few bakery jobs here and there but always felt that I was working so hard for someone else to reap all the reward. Starting your own business is no easy task that’s for sure.

What is your favorite thing to make/produce?

I like making really pretty wedding cakes. I like when clients take a risk.

Where are you from/where did you grow up?

I’m originally from a small town called Monument in Colorado. Went to school at Colorado State. And moved to many new places after that.

Share a fun fact about yourself you’d like your customers to know!

I love theater and sometimes you’ll find me doing a show at ETC in Galveston. I also use to sing a bit of jazz music, and that’s why I’m called Jazz Bird Bakery.
