Timeframe: 21-Week Program
Hours: This is an hourly, part-time position, starting at 12 hours per week. During your internship, this position requires availability every Sunday (7:30a-2p during the months of Oct-May, 7:30a-1p during the months of June-Oct).
Compensation and Benefits: $18/hour. While working with GOFM, the intern is eligible to participate in GOFM’s mental wellness program that provides free cognitive therapy (talk therapy counseling) through the Family Service Center.
Location: Hybrid work environment. The majority of internship (approx. 7 hrs) will be spent in-person at the market (3304 Market St., Galveston, Texas 77550) on Sunday mornings into the early afternoon. The remainder of the time will be spent at their home and/or at the GOFM office (306 Kempner #200, Galveston, Texas 77550) and attending GOFM events as needed. Some travel is needed.

Description:

Assist Market Manager with all onsite operations management of weekly open-air farmers market on Sundays. Intern will be trained and eventually given responsibilities that include:

Physical set-up and breakdown of market
-
Liaising with: market customers, SNAP & WIC clients, onsite volunteers, community partners, etc.

Enter data during and immediately following Sunday markets, including SNAP transactions, final cashbox counts, etc.

Collection of booth fees from market vendors
-
Become an ambassador for GOFM and engage with the community at various outreach events throughout internship
-
Support in developing, planning, and implementing projects and volunteer events, educational offerings, and another programming

Provide additional administrative support as needed
Qualifications:

Must have reliable transportation & ways of communication

Passion for addressing food insecurity and strengthening our community’s connection with food

Experience using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

Interest in local foods, education, and nutrition

Accountability, reliability, and adaptability

Strong communication skills

Access to internet and laptop

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

Ability to perform moderately strenuous labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs

Ability to work independently

Bilingual Spanish speaker a plus

Photography skills a plus

Familiar with Google Suite – using Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc, a plus
