About GOFM:
Mission: To build and sustain a local food community through a vibrant producers-only marketplace, improved food access, and educational programming.
Founded in 2012, GOFM is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization feeding Galvestonians & beyond. GOFM builds a healthier community through increasing access to healthy foods, providing food/ag education & connecting people to one another through food. Our year-round farmers market is a SNAP retailer that triples SNAP benefits for customers & allows families to eat more fruits & vegetables. We teach free cooking classes & host community dinners through our Real Food Project. Our Young Gardeners Program school gardens guide students through every step of growing food & sends them home with vegetables weekly. In the COVID-19 era, services expanded significantly in order to meet the needs of Galveston families; the FreshBox program delivers local foods to food-insecure households and our Victory Gardens program installs & maintains public gardens that produce food for direct distribution to local homes with support of our community partners like MECC & the City of Galveston.
GOFM began as a once-weekly market that served as a small-business incubator & direct conduit for consumers to local food producers. Over the years, our work repeatedly affirms that eating at a shared table is a powerful tool for unity and empowerment. We are now a community hub with a holistic approach to transforming the health of our island. GOFM puts food & practical knowledge of nutrition & food-growing directly in our community’s hands, re-shaping the conception around “good food” & who deserves it.
