FreshBox

What is FreshBox?

GOFM’s FreshBox was our immediate response to an unmet hunger gap among Galveston families with school-aged children during the fallout of the Coronavirus crisis.

A free parcel of local foods sourced from GOFM’s farmers & makers is delivered to the doorstep of local families.

Each box can make an average of 3-4 meals per week. That’s an average of 3,675 meals.

  • FreshBox contents have a total retail value of $30-45 each week & are always vegetables, proteins & bread

  • Recipes in English & Spanish always included

  • We currently deliver to 25 families every other week.

  • Recipient families were identified for us early on through the Boys and Girls Club, colleagues from the Family Service Center, Urban Strategies, and teachers at GISD.

  • We have a waiting list that allows us to maintain the same number of deliveries when families regain stability and no longer need the weekly delivery.

If you would like to support us or be on the waitlist, donate with the button below or contact us for more information.

Why FreshBox?

The Coronavirus crisis has caused dramatic disruption for local families. For many, the loss of free/reduced-cost school meals has brought significant hardship to already food-insecure households with children. In 2020, Galveston Independent School District feeds around 4,200 children daily during the school year and the current emergency food distribution at GISD sites serves approximately 700-1,000 children daily.

GOFM’s FreshBox program is one piece of addressing the food insecurity puzzle.

Local money supports both the local economy by patronizing small businesses/agriculture and the immediate health of vulnerable families during this public health crisis.
