    9/15 – Buy Nothing

Give & receive, share, lend, and express gratitude through a worldwide network of micro-local gift economies.

It is as easy as 1-2-3:

    1. Bring up to 5 items MAX that you would like to give. Please no perishable food items!

    2. Take what you need or want.

    3. Any items left will be donated.

It is give, take, or both! We give out of abundance with no expectation of anything in return.

We do not encourage trading/bartering/buying/selling (as that is gifting with expectation of receiving).

Sign up to Volunteer for Buy Nothing here>

    Dates:

    September 15, 2024

    9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

at Galveston’s Own Farmers Market (3304 Market, 77550)

    About the Buy Nothing.

    Give Freely. Share creatively.

    Follow us at https://www.facebook.com/BuyNothingProject/

We offer members a way to give and receive, share, lend, and express gratitude through a worldwide network of micro-local gift economies in which the true wealth is the web of connections formed between people who are real-life neighbors. Post anything you’d like to give away, lend, or share in this Buy Nothing community group. Ask for anything you’d like to receive for free or borrow. Keep it legal. Keep it civil.

Buy Nothing Galveston, TX, is for neighbors on Galveston Island, TX, in the neighborhoods located within our boundaries (Galveston Island).

If you live here, we’d love to have you join us! You can join one group only, the group where you live, so you can literally “give where you live.” This is what builds community. In this group there is no buying or selling, no trades or bartering, no soliciting for cash. We’re an adult-only, hyper-local gift economy. We are not a charity or community bulletin board.

About Center for Addiction Research at the University of Texas Medical Branch

The Center for Addiction Research (CAR) was established in January 2004 as an institutional center of excellence at UTMB and provides the infrastructure for research and education in substance use disorders (SUDs), emphasizing preclinical target discovery in the addictions. The CAR currently includes 91 faculty, 23 postdoctoral fellows, 42 predoctoral mentees, 19 scientists, and four administrative staff members and is supported institutionally to advance SUDs research, mentoring/education, and community outreach.

The MISSION of the CAR is to improve the course of chronic health disorders through new understanding of biological mechanisms and translation of these discoveries into novel therapeutics to improve the lives of people in our community, state, and world.

The VISION is to define the future of molecular therapeutics for SUDs, obesity, and related chronic CNS disorders. The CAR has built strengths in target-based discovery, disease-specific knowledge, and specialized core technologies to amplify these efforts. We have partnerships with scientists, centers, and departments centrally engaged in the translational research areas of interest at UTMB and we continue to build bridges for new translational research initiatives. Ongoing studies focus on the neurobiology of dopamine, serotonin and amino acid systems, mechanisms of action of psychostimulants and analgesics, fetal exposure to medications during pregnancy, HIV/AIDS-associated neuropathology, and target and drug discovery.
