    12/10 + 12/17 – UTMB Resiterns Toy Drive

The UTMB Residents are spreading joy with a special toy drive! They’re collecting new toys to brighten up the holidays for the children at Shriners & Ronald McDonald House on both December 10 & December 17.

The Ronald McDonald House serves pediatric patients and families being treated at University of Texas Medical Branch and Shriners Children’s Texas. The house provides a comfortable place to stay while the children are receiving treatment at one of the hospitals. The facility has 20 fully-furnished rooms and a fully-equipped kitchen, along with two dining rooms. There are also bilingual staff on-site 24 hours a day to assist the families.

It’s a heartwarming addition to the market, bringing the community together in the spirit of giving and making this festive season even more special.

  • 12/3 – Plants for the People

12/3 – Plants for the People

Have you been looking for a new leafy friend for your home garden? How about one lovingly tended by one of our Young Gardeners Program students? Join us for “Plants for the People,” a community event hosted at our Sunday farmers market where we’ll give away 200 native plants for free (or a donation if you’re feeling extra generous) to spread the love of greenery throughout our community.

But wait, there’s more! Each plant has been cared for by the talented students of GOFM’s Young Gardeners Program (Oppe campus), and our little gardeners will be at market to help you select the perfect plant for your space. This event is not just about covering our island in native plants; it’s about nurturing young minds too! These future horticultural experts will practice their salesmanship, interpersonal skills and plant knowledge– so come ready to learn and make new friends!

This initiative is funded by Clean Galveston and we’ve pulled it off in partnership with plants donated by Galveston Bay Foundation and Jimbo’s Nursery, advice and support from our friends at Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council and Galveston Island Tree Conservancy, and Galveston ISD, Texas ACE & TOR–our primary partners of the Young Gardeners Program!
