While 1 in 7 hospitalized people will need a blood transfusion in a lifetime, only 1 in 20 eligible blood donors actually donate. There is no substitute for blood – your donation saves lives.
Plus, if you donate blood, you’ll get a FREE Marroon Zip Pullover from the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.
Dates:
July 24
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center needs 1,000 donations every day of the year to serve patients in our community. Giving on an ongoing basis helps ensure blood components are always available for the patients we serve. Your donation could mean the difference between life and death for someone, and that’s why we’re so grateful for you.

About GOFM’s Real Food Project
In late 2017, GOFM initiated the Real Food Project, a multifaceted set of programs that all support increased food access, nutrition and community building in Galveston. The RFP includes Community Cooking Classes offered free or low-cost to the public & to private groups, Community Meals coordinated with partners across Galveston County, and most recently, our FreshBox initiative.
This week Galveston’s Own Farmers Market and Galveston ISD hosted the last of six district-wide vegetable taste-testings for 3rd graders.
The schools prepare the produce from the student-grown gardens and local farmers. The 3RD graders taste and rank the dishes.
GOFM was the recipient of a 2021 USDA Farm to School Grant, which was used to fund this project.
The Young Gardeners Program school gardens are located throughout the island.
The students learn to plant, tend and harvest the gardens. They also learn recipes and take what they grow home.
Honi Alexander, director of the Young Gardeners Program, says the children learn about science, nutrition, economy, full circle gardening, and farming.
