    About United Way

United Way of Galveston responds to our community’s unique needs with programs and funding that make lasting change + put opportunities in the hands of all people on the island. We are celebrating our 100th year of impact in 2023 to honor and recognize the people behind a full century of serving (and being supported by) the people of Galveston.

We are commonly known for our Workplace Giving and Allocations Program, which support more than 30 island-based nonprofit organizations with much-needed operations funding. We also operate the Galveston County Recovery Fund, which is a pop-up model that has helped Galveston in it’s most dire times, including Hurricane Ike, Hurricane Harvey, the Covid-19 Pandemic, “Snovid” (and we hope that is all, disaster-wise, but we are ready if it’s not).

UWG is excited to announce the launch of our newest program, Born Learning + Baby Smart Galveston, which began March 1, and we’re partnering with Nia Cultural Center, GISD and the City of Galveston’s Families, Children, and Youth Board. This program, anchored by a new trail at Adoue Park by Rosenberg Elementary School and seed-funded by Better Parks for Galveston, is for parents and caregivers of children ages 0-6. The purpose of the Born Learning Trail is to teach those who have young children how they can turn everyday moments (like playing outside or shopping for groceries) into learning opportunities.

The goal is to have more children enter GISD ready for kindergarten, and on their way to a healthy, educated, and financially stable life.
